Bill McDorman

Bill McDorman, a lifelong seed saver and passionate advocate for seed sovereignty is dedicated to empowering people to save and share their own seeds. He has worked to preserve heirloom and open-pollinated seeds through education, activism, and community organizing.
He co-founded Garden City Seeds while in college and later launched Seeds Trust/High Altitude Gardens, a mail-order seed company specializing in resilient, regionally adapted varieties. Bill is the author of Basic Seed Saving and with his wife, Belle Starr, created Seed School, an internationally recognized training program that has inspired thousands to save and share seeds.
Both Bill and Belle previously served as co-directors of Native Seeds/SEARCH, working to preserve traditional Southwest seed varieties. Bill later co-founded the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance, where he helped establish the Rocky Mountain Heritage Grain Trials Program to revitalize ancient grains and promote regional seed diversity.
A passionate and knowledgeable speaker, Bill advocates for resilient, local food systems. He and Belle live in Cornville, Arizona, where they trial heritage grains and share their knowledge through workshops and lectures. Bill’s personal seed list is available at CornvilleSeed.com.
